Paraphrased from community Seaglider piloting checklists, updated for basestation3/vis workflows. See Dive Cycle & Control Files and Trim & Flight Model for the how.

Each piloting session

  • Check glider status: latest comm.log entries and the current cmdfile state  did the last call complete? what directive is staged?
  • Review glider health: battery consumption and minimum voltage, internal pressure/vacuum, humidity, Iridium call quality
  • Review the dive plots (vis or piloting tools): dive symmetry, vertical velocity, pitch/roll behavior
  • Check the altimeter is finding the bottom and is sensibly tuned (if in use)
  • Trim if needed; log every cmdfile change on the agreed team channel
  • Confirm science sensors are producing data of expected quality; watch for anomalies
  • Plot the latest surfacing positions; confirm the glider is tracking its waypoints
  • Check ship-traffic and current forecasts along the track for upcoming risks
  • Update the endurance estimate against plan  amp-hours consumed per day vs. remaining mission
  • Confirm mission objectives are being met; propose plan adjustments if not
  • Fill in the dive/pilot log
