Background

The Glider Rodeo field-tested PAM-glider platforms under the same conditions to give data-driven guidance on what each system can do in different operational environments and for different research questions. Each glider was flown through a sequence of mission modes:

Phase Mode Start (UTC) Stop (UTC)

Goals

Answer, for every glider and mission mode:

  • Piloting: how do pilots achieve each mission mode (pitch, buoyancy, dive depth, yos per surfacing)?
  • Navigation: how well does each glider hold the trackline, and how is that affected by currents?
  • Endurance: how does mission mode affect battery use and data storage?
  • Noise: how much self-noise (pumping, motors, flow) does each glider make?

Datasets

  • Glider Rodeo deployment data (engineering, science, GPS): on the Glider Rodeo JupyterHub in shared-public/GliderRodeo/, one folder per deployment.
  • Soundscape metrics (60 s averaged spectra per glider): shared-public/GliderRodeo/Noise/.
  • Glider specifications: shared-public/GliderRodeo/PAM_Glider_Specs.csv.

The source data are preliminary.
